Dr. Amy Light
Pediatric Dental Specialist, Board Certified Orthodontist
I feel truly blessed to have so many young people in my life. Knowing that I have played a role in shaping the smiles of my young patients is the very best part of my job. I believe that a healthy mouth and beautiful smile give people confidence. I have also had the great joy of watching many of my patients grow from cute little toddlers to beautiful young adults. Dentistry for children has rapidly evolved over the last few years, making most dental procedures quick, painless, and easy for patients. I am fortunate that I can make dentistry and orthodontics fun!
I am pleased to welcome you and your family to our practice, and I look forward to working with you.

Staying on top of the newest and most technologically advanced treatments is key to providing my patients with the best possible care. I am certified in hard and soft tissue lasers, temporary anchorage devices, and Invisalign®. I regularly attend annual AAO, AAPD and ABO conferences to keep updated on the latest techniques.
What an incredible group of individuals I am privileged to work with. My team is highly trained and has the latest certification in expanded functions in dentistry, orthodontics, and radiology. All are dedicated to excellence in patient care from our savvy business team to our gentle dental technicians and hygienists. They enjoy helping patients have a positive dental or orthodontic experience and want to make visits fun. My team enjoys speaking at local elementary schools on the benefits of oral health and educating pediatric nurses and offices on early infant oral care and fluoride.
Outside the Office
I live in Chevy Chase with my growing children, Michael, Gregory, and Olivia, as well as our three dogs, Oreo, Casey, and Snickerdoodle. Family life keeps me busy, but I like to make time to play the flute, sing with the church band, play tennis, and create culinary delights in the kitchen.
I am also involved with numerous community organizations such as the Women’s Dental Society, Maryland Dental Society, American Association of Board Certified Orthodontists, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Autism Speaks, Smiles Change Lives, and the Potomac Chamber of Commerce. I enjoy sponsoring my young patients in Miss Teen Maryland and community sports leagues. Serving others and giving back to the community gives me a great sense of joy and satisfaction.

In the Office
Dr. Sholander enjoys working with families to individualize treatment to each child. It is important that her patients have a pleasant dental experience and she will often use creative stories, songs and games as part of the experience. Dr. Sholander has completed additional training in laser dentistry. She and her patients appreciate the option for “shotless” fillings the laser can provide.
Outside of the Office
Dr. Sholander enjoys spending time with her husband, young daughter Jacquelyn and their New Foundland Dog. They love going into the city and exploring the museums and unique cultural restaurants. Other times, you can find them in one of the nearby towns hiking or biking or reading at home in the evenings. While she is usually one of the slower ones out there, she tries to complete a half marathon or two per year on behalf of different charities, including, Wounded Warriors and St. Judes.
Good oral health is such an important component to overall health and I enjoy educating the children that have placed their trust in me. I look forward to seeing each child return to the office, gaining confidence and growing as individuals.

I love to learn, and I especially enjoy learning about all the new dental technology being developed. It’s my goal to provide my patients with the best, most efficient care possible. I have attended continuing education courses in pediatric dentistry sponsored by the AAPD and have advanced training in laser dentistry.
In the Office
Many of our team members have been with us for several years, developing long-lasting, trusting relationships and helping us work well together. We all want children’s dental experiences to be fun and enjoyable, and there’s nothing better than having an office full of happy, smiling children!
Outside the Office
I currently reside in Arlington with my husband, Sean, our daughters, Emma and Lily, and our two labs, Charlotte and Isabel. I enjoy running and have even completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 2003 and 2005! I also love to go to the beach with my family and support local restaurants serving organic and delicious food.
Our family supports several charities such as the Smile Train, providing cleft palate surgeries for children in under privileged countries, the Humane Society, and the World Wildlife Fund. This summer we are helping to start a community garden at our daughter’s school and are also active members of our parish, St. Agnes Catholic Church.
